Does The Metropolitan Opera's Orchestra rehearse?

I heard my teacher said:"The orchestra of New York Metropolitan Opera doesn't reherse before the opera is performed.""The members of the orchestra only have one chance to rehearse,on the stage."

Is it true?

No, it is not true. The MET orchestra rehearses regularly. The entire orch doesn't perform nightly - there are extra players for the big Wagner operas and, of course, smaller operas like Rossini and Handel use much smaller orchestras. Granted, operas that are done regularly need only a brush up rehearsal or two. New productions are strenuously rehearsed! Remember the MET orchestra also does concerts in Carnegie Hall and other venues from time to time. Yep. They rehearse. A lot!

I don't know if that's true but I suppose rehearsal is definitely a requirement for any musical group or organization. More so, with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra !
