How to stop Opera mail?

I understand that when opera starts the first thing it does is check for mail. Now as I don't use this feature I would like to block it.

I have tried renaming the mail folder, and also deleting it and replacing with a new text file called "mail". All of this is ignored and opera just recreates the folder and files it wants.

Any one know the correct procedure for stopping this mail check..
