I am continually searching for new music and I want to get into the opera game. So I really would like some suggestions on what to listen to in order to get started, the standards of opera if you will. I'm looking for stuff easily avaliable in most music stores, it would also be nice if I could get names and years recorded. Just as a note wikipedia is not a reliable source.
What are the best opera standards?windows xp service
In chronological order, I suppose you would want a Mozart (The marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, or The Magic Flute), a Verdi (Rigoletto, La Traviata, or Aida), Bizet's Carmen, a Puccini (La Boheme, Tosca, or Madama Butterfly), and a Wagner. That should give you 5 "standards".
